Chapter 2
The next morning...
As soon as I got up, I took a shower and got
dressed. When I came downstairs I saw dad drinking from his coffee mug.
“Where are you going so early in the morning?” he asked.
“I’m going grocery shopping.” I answered.
“It’s only 8am.” He pointed out.
“I wanna get there before it gets too crowded.”
“Don’t you want breakfast, first?”
“Maybe later, dad. See ya.” I waved at him.
I got the car keys on the way out of the house.
When I got out of the house, I saw Mrs. Henderson watering her garden.
“Good morning, Katie.” She greeted me. “Your up rather early.”
“I have to go grocery shopping.” I informed her. “I don’t like shopping when it gets too crowded.”
Just then Cedric came out of their house. He
stretched then yawned. He was wearing a navy blue t-shirt that said ‘Wake me up and you’ll regret it’ and gray sweatpants. He saw me and waved to me. I waved back.
“Morning, Katie. Your a morning person?” he asked with a laugh.
I laughed, too. “Not really. I just woke up really early today.”
I looked at him and his mom. “I have to go. Nice talking to you, Mrs. Henderson. See you later, Cedric.”
“Have fun grocery shopping.” Mrs. Henderson called out to me.
“I’ll catch you later.” Cedric told me then smiled.
I nodded at them both.
I got in the car and drove all the way to the
Supermarket. When I got there, there weren’t very many people yet. I bought everything we needed at the house and paid for everything at the register. As soon as I finished loading all the groceries in the car, I got and drove to the bookstore. When I got to the bookstore I immediately saw the big “CLOSED” sign. I sighed, disappointed. I drove quickly back home, parked the car and went inside, carrying the 2 heavy grocery bags. Anna was descending the stairs when I got in the house. She saw me and immediately ran toward me.
“Need some help?” she asked, grinning.
“Sure.” I handed her one of the heavy bags and we carried it to the kitchen counter.
“I saw Cedric today. I told him everything.” She stated.
“You know, you didn’t have to do that.”
“I know, you told me. But I wanted to.” She smiled, warmly at me.
“Though,” she added. “He was getting pretty annoying this morning. I almost smacked him.”
We laughed.
“Why what’d he do?” I asked
“He kept asking if you really busy for the day or if you were just using that as an excuse to avoid him.” She laughed.
I blushed. “What did you tell him?”
“I told him ‘She really is busy. She wants to spend time with you but we both have chores to do.’ He looked really upset so I told him, ‘I’ll help her, so she can hang out with you later.’ That pleased him.” She informed me.
“How’d you know it pleased him?”
“Because he kept grinning hugely after I said that.” She told me then laughed. “I told you he likes you.”
“Yeah, right.” I told her. “C’mon let’s get to work.”
We washed the clothes together (They were mostly Anna’s
Clothes) after that I went in the kitchen to cook steaks for dinner while Anna watered the garden and dad was helping her by mowing the lawn. I called out to them when I was done cooking. They immediately rushed to the kitchen.
“Wow, Katie! That looks good.” Dad complimented me and sat down on the dinning chair.
“It smells good, too.” Anna told me as she took a seat next to dad.
“Thanks.” I smiled at them and placed their plates in front of them. I sat down and took a bite of the steak. They took a bite of it, too.
“Wow! It’s really good, Katie. You should cook more often.” Anna told me.
I laughed. “It doesn’t taste that good to me.” I told them.
“Your just being modest.” Dad told me.
I blushed and they laughed.
After they were done eating, I washed the dishes and cleaned
the kitchen, while Anna was sweeping the house and dad is probably mopping the floor. When I was done they were done, too. I sat down on one of the couches in the living room and sighed. Anna took a seat next to me. I looked at the clock, it’s already 8pm.
“You’d better go find him after you rest a bit.” She told me.
“Dad’s in the garage.” I told her.
“Not dad.” She told me.
I looked at her confused. She looked at me sceptically.
“I meant Cedric. He’s been waiting for you all day, remember?”
“Oh right. I’ll go see him now.”
“Yeah, You go do that.”
I went outside and walked toward the Henderson’s
place. I knocked on their door. I expected Mrs. Henderson to answer the door like she usually does, but this time it was a man. He had brown hair, pale skin and gray eyes. He looked a lot like Cedric.
“Can I help you?” he asked me politely.
“Um.. yes. Is Cedric Henderson there?” I answered him.
“Yes, you must be Katherine, my wife and son have been talking about you.” Then he called out to Cedric.
Oh... no wonder he looks so much like Cedric. He’s Cedric’s dad.
“My wife said you are such a charming young lady and Cedric wasn’t exaggerating when he said your really a sight to see.” He told me and then laughed.
‘Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Cedric talked to him about me?’
Just then Cedric came down the stairs and looked
at his dad than at me.
“What’s going on here?” he asked, suspicious.
“Nothing. We were just having a little chat.” Mr. Henderson said.
“What were you guys talking about?’’ he asked, still suspicious.
“Nothing.” I answered then me and Mr. Henderson laughed.
Cedric looked at us confused but then shook his head.
“So, Katie what brings you here?” he said then smiled at me.
“Anna told me you were looking for me all morning.”
Mr. Henderson laughed.
“Dad!” Cedric whined.
“Alright. I’ll leave you two kids alone.” Mr. Henderson said then went to the living room.
I laughed.
“Yeah. I wanted to ask you something..” he said and then blushed and looked down.
“Ask me.”
“I know I just met you. And I shouldn’t be asking you this anyway, but....” he took a deep breath “Would you...”
“Yes?”
“Do you...”
“Spit it out!” I told him
“Go out with me Friday night?” he asked.
“Huh?” I asked him, confused.
‘Did he know I was the weirdo at school? The girl who only has 1 friend.’
“Never mind. Forget what I said.” He said.
I collected my thoughts then smiled at him. “I’d love to go out with you.” I told him.
His head snapped up. “Really?”
“Yeah. Why not?”
“Great. So after school?” he asked.
“Sure.” I smiled at him.
Just then dad called out to me.
“Katie? Are you out here?
“Yeah. I’ll be home in a sec.” I answered back.
I faced Cedric again.
“You’d better go home your dad’s waiting for you.” He told me, a little upset.
“Umm.. yeah. Ok.”
“So ... Friday?”
“Friday.” I agreed.
“Great. It’s a date.” He grinned hugely.
Before I could answer he went inside his house
and closed the door. I could hear his dad teasing him and laughed to myself. I walked back to my house but then I heard rustling leaves and saw something moved. But there weren’t any leaves and no one was there behind me.
‘I could’ve sworn I heard something and I know I saw something move’ I pondered.
I shrugged then went inside the house. Anna was
waiting for me.
“How’d it go?” she asked.
“Shh ...” I looked around. “Where’s dad?” I asked.
“In the living room. Why?”
“Come with me.” I climbed upstairs to my room and after Anna came in I locked the door.
“What is it, Katie? Is something wrong?” she asked, worriedly.
“No. Everything’s wonderful!” I exclaimed and hugged her.
“Wow! I’ve never seen you this happy before. What happened?”
“Cedric asked me out!” I told her.
We both screamed and jumped up and down like little kids.
Then we heard a knock on the door. “Girls?”
“Dad!” we both exclaimed.
We opened the door. Dad looked at us confused.
“What’s going on here? Are you two fighting?” he asked, concerned.
“Nope.” We both said at the same time then laughed.
Dad looked at us confused. “So you girls aren’t fighting anymore?”
“Our feud is finally over, dad.” We both laughed.
“Alright then.” He smiled. “That’s good to hear. I just wanted to check up on you, girls. I’ll leave you two alone now.”
When dad finally left the room. Me and Anna jumped
Up and down and screamed like little girls again. A few minutes later we stopped, breathing heavily.
“When?” she asked, still laughing.
“Friday night.” I told her then I giggled.
“What are you gonna wear?” she asked.
‘Did not think of that one.’
“Oh yeah.” I stopped laughing and frowned. “What am I gonna wear?
“Don’t worry, sis. I’ve got just the thing.” She smiled than took my hand and led me all the way to her room.
She went to her huge closet and dug through
her million of clothes. Her room is bigger than mine she has pink wallpaper and a princess bed, but to me her closet is the biggest part of her room. A few seconds later she found what she was looking for.
“Aha!”
“What is it?” I asked, curious.
She turned to face me, holding a light blue cocktail
dress with matching shoes and purse.
“Well, what do you think?” she asked.
“Anna, I’m not going to ball just a simple date. I don’t even know where or what were going to do.” I told her.
“Oh, I’ll ask him tomorrow.” She told me then smiled.
“No! Don’t do that!” I exclaimed.
“Why not?” she asked, confused.
“Because he might think I’m the one asking.”
“So?”
“So ... I don’t really want to know, anyway. I want it to be a surprise. It’s my first date. I want it to be memorable, unexpected and romantic.”
“You’ve been reading way too much romance novels.” She told me.
We laughed. “But okay. I understand it’s your first date. It does only happen once in your life. But you have a bigger problem.”
“What?” I asked.
“What are you gonna tell dad?”
‘Oh yeah.’ “I don’t know.”
“Will you tell him your going on a date?”
“I don’t know even know what I’m gonna tell him.”
“What if dad strangles you? What he if he grounds you for the rest of your life? What if - ”
“Okay, okay.” I cut her off. “I get it. But c’mon dad’s not that extreme.” I told her.
She snorted. “Yeah, right. That’s because you haven’t gone on a date yet. The hardest part isn’t what you look, it’s what your gonna tell dad.” She said then laughed. “Good luck. You’ll need it.”
‘Maybe Anna was right. If I told dad he might strangle me to death.’ I thought. ‘Okay, now I’m scared.’ I gulped.
“Tell you what. Let me worry about those petty detail. You relax. I don’t want you to look like Godzilla on your first date.”
We both laughed.
“Okay. Thanks, Anna.”
“No problem. Goodnight.”
“Goodnight.”
I went to my room. I was about to change but, I noticed
My bedroom window was open. I walked over there to close it.
“Katie?” someone asked.
I looked around. No one was in my room. Though the voice sounded very familiar.
“Katie, look out your window.”
I did as the voice said. I saw Cedric on the open window at the next house. I jumped, startled.
“God! You scared me.”
“Sorry.” He said then laughed.
“It’s okay. At least I didn’t end up dead.”
We both laughed.
“Good. Cause I want my date to be alive Friday night. I’m not gonna go to a date with a dead corpse.”
We laughed, again.
Just then Anna walked into my room.
“Katie, I need to borrow your blue sweater tom - ” she called out, then suddenly stopped when she saw Cedric at the window next door.
“Sorry to interrupt. But – never mind.” She laughed then winked at me. “By the way, Cedric, where are you taking my sister Friday night?”
“Anna! You told me you wouldn’t ask!”
“I never promised.” She reminded me.
“I’m gonna take her to movie then eat at a restaurant.” He yelled.
“You better not take her to fast food.” She yelled back.
“Anna!” I scolded.
“Of course not!” he yelled back.
“Alright, that’s all I needed to know. Goodnight, you two.” She laughed.
I sighed then faced Cedric, again.
“Sorry about that.” I told him.
“It’s fine. We’d better go to sleep. We have school tomorrow.”
“Right. Goodnight, Cedric.”
“Night. See you tomorrow.”
I nodded and then closed the window.
After I brushed my hair and my teeth, I changed to
My loose T-Shirt and pyjamas. I collapsed on top of my bed and immediately fell asleep. I dreamt that a lady with beautiful curly brown hair was watching me sleep and caressed my face and then at 4am, she kissed the top of my forehead and jumped out of my window.
